A CAT ’S STRANGE ABILITY TO FIND THE WAY HOME
You must have heard a lot of stories where act wounds up at its old address even after the family has moved… but how does this happen? Cat owners should keep their cats indoors for at least a month after they move houses for ensuring the cat doesn’t go back to its old habitat. This unique cat behaviour of finding their way back home still continues to mystify families, vets, and scientists alike. But how do cats manage to do this?
HOW DO CATS MANAGE TO FIND THEIR WAY BACK HOME?
According to animal behaviourists, both cats and dogs share strong bonds with humans but cats also develop a strong bond with their home locations as they mark their territory by bunting scent glands that are found under their chin or by urine spraying.
There are a lot of possible theories ranging from magnetic geolocation to olfactory cues (cat smells) for this behaviour. But for now, we just know that cats manage to find their way back home even though they are miles away and the reason for it still remains a mystery.
Cat owners need to be aware of this behaviour as cats can sometimes get caught in medical mishaps and get injured if they aren’t aware of what is happening around them. If your cat is suspected of being injured or if he was absent at home for a long time, you are strongly advised to contact your veterinarian for an examination and timely assistance.
